Intel has revealed that its new Core Ultra 200V chip series outperforms Qualcomm and AMD in AI processing capabilities while also being more energy-efficient.

Unveiled at an event in Berlin on September 3, the Core Ultra 200V chip is built for PC AI and supports most major language models available. This chip, utilizing Intel’s x86 architecture, represents the most energy-efficient series the company has produced so far.

“Core Ultra 200V is the most historic and efficient processor Intel has ever created,” said Josh Newman, General Manager and Vice President of Marketing and Product Management for Intel’s Client Computing Group.

Throughout a nearly hour-long presentation of the new chip, Intel representatives referenced “AI” over 50 times. “The Core Ultra series will revolutionize mobile AI, challenging preconceived notions about the power capabilities of x86 architecture. The representative announced that Intel strives to provide users with the best AI PC experience possible.

Intel claims that in the swiftly evolving realm of artificial intelligence, devices need specialized hardware to stay ahead of the continually growing AI models. Users desire not only exceptional performance but also devices designed for long-term use. The Core Ultra 200V is created with these needs in mind.

This new chip boasts a computing power of 120 TOPS (trillion operations per second) from its CPU, GPU, and NPU (neural processing unit), while also consuming 50% less power than its predecessor. The new processor’s NPU, which boasts four times the power of its predecessor, allows it to run AI applications continuously while consuming less power. The platforms additionally support over 300 AI-accelerated features.

The Xe2 graphics architecture allows the Core Ultra 200V to enhance mobile graphics processing performance by 30% over the previous generation.

Boasting up to eight second-generation Xe cores and eight enhanced ray tracing units, the chip is capable of displaying visuals on three 4K resolution screens. The built-in XMX AI engine and Intel Arc graphics card, which deliver 67 TOPS of computing power, guarantee seamless performance for creative software and elevate the gaming experience with advanced XeSS cores.

The first AI laptops equipped with the Core Ultra chip are anticipated to be accessible to users by late September. Intel announced that the Core Ultra 200V will be included in 95 top AI laptop models from manufacturers such as Acer, ASUS, Dell Technologies, HP, Lenovo, LG, MSI, and Samsung.

If users respond positively, Intel will secure a substantial edge as it transitions into the next phase of the market. Analysts forecast that, following a surge in shopping during the pandemic, 2025 will once again be an exciting year for the PC market, marked by intense competition among Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm. The way these companies perform this year will directly influence their market share in the years to come.
